» » fotograf2006 | I'm interested in the Sticher 5.6 DS that can produce a panorama with only 2 pictures. I have a Canon 5D - Fullframe Sensor - Camera. Now: which lense will work for 100%. Please only answer if you have TESTED and not only assume that...
Thanks.

badders | Hi Felix,
If you've got a 5D it's bad news I'm afraid. There's only one lens in the world that is going to allow you to take 2 x shots with a full frame DSLR. This is because you need a lens that give GREATER than 180 degs coverage and als give a FULL circle image.
The lens is made by Coastal Optical Systems and costs circa $7500.
Oh, and yes, I've tested it. ---------------

fotograf2006 | Hell Andrew,
Thanks a lot for this answer. So you think that even the sigma 8mm fisheye wouldn't work with the 5D.
But what is the solution? To buy a Canon 40D (Crop 1.6) with an appropriate lense? If so which lense would fit?
If you have found a solution then I would appreciate a answer.. I'm lost in the universe of this theme..... ;-)

badders | If you use the Sigma 8mm with a 5D for 2 shots, you get a full circle image, but as the FOV is ONLY 180 degs, there's no overlap so the images won't stitch. What you can do though is take 3 x shots with that lens, use the normal Stitcher Unlimted and that'll work a treat.
You'll get a small black triangle at the zenith/nadir areas but you can fix that easily here:

fotograf2006 | It really seems to be very tricky having a 5D and a lense. The following link tells that not all lenses will work!! didn't understand all of it by now but for sure the bottom-line. So Fisheyes won't work on the stiching software!!! If true then it's too expensive for that!! really!

badders | The Sigma 8mm f/3.5 works fine with the 5D, you just need 3 x shots. ---------------

jpdeglet | We have a Canon 5D with Sigma 8mm EXDG Fisheye f/3.5,
After some test We can realize Panoramic with only 2 shots !!!
(Stitcher Pro 5.6.1 and 5.6.2) |
badders | As you're at the extreme edge of the lens here, with just a minimal of overlap I think you'll get better results with three. Have you made a direct comparision? ---------------

I think Badders is probably right, but I'd love to see the a virtual images you've created with 2 fisheyes shots taken with your 5D and the Sigma 8mm.
Got any online we can take a look at? ---------------

jpdeglet | Hi,
You can download two examples from (link opened until tomorrow 20/12/2007 12pm)
ftp://odcom-telemaque.dnsalias.net

The first, qtvr_0903_0905_561.mov has been stitched with
DS 5.6.1
- It was the first time... SIGMA 8mm EXDG + DS... Shot and automatically stitched without correction.
The second, qtvr_0020_0021_562.mov has been stitched with
DS 5.6.2
- Some "customizing" have been adjusted in Stitcher.
