Importing models between VTour projects

Hi to All!

I have just downloaded VTour for the Mac, and done a quick skim of the PDF manual (not actually used VTour yet or done a tutorial). And something crossed my mind that an experienced user might be able to answer - which I did not see in my brief perusal of the manual:

Can you add "models" created/based on a VR (or image) from one VTour project to another VTour project?

I know that there is a one node limit for VTour, but my thinking is that you could shoot single images in the VR node's "environment" from alternate camera angles and then create a model of missing objects in a separate "single image" VTour - then export one or more of these models from this "single image" VTour and drop/calibrate them into the "VR" VTour project.

For example:
----------------
From the VR camera node location, buildings "A" & "C" are visible, but building "B" is hidden between them (from the camera's point of view).

Take a "single image" from another vantage point that clearly shows the many of the same "locator points" on buildings "A" & "C" as does the VR pano, but also shows building "B" as well.

Create the VTour model/project for the "VR" pano.
Create the VTour model/project for the "single image".

Then using the common locator points of buildings "A" & "C" in both projects, drop-in/calibrate the building "B" model from the "single image" VTour project into that of the "VR" project.

Thanks!

Hello Jim,

VTour is not really designed for multi-projects (for now) , no groups, no hierarchy, no calibration , but you can import objects (Obj files) or other projects (IM and VTour are both rzml files). But only the geometry and textures will be imported, not the camera(s).
After import, the "new" objects of the "new" scene are selected. I would suggest to choose the Integration Tool, that will allow you to place the selected objects into the actual scene (1, 2 or 3 relations are asked to the user).

There are also scripts for Maya that we added in the package that allows you to make the integration work of several projects, in Maya (the cameras in that case are kept).

Hope it helps,

Stef

Hi Stef!

From what I understand of your reply it sounds like I would be able to drop "Building B" from the "single image" VTour into the "VR" VTour project.

At any rate, now I have a direction to investigate.

Thank you for your quick response - I notice you are quite active on this & the IM forum - the Stitcher forum could use someone (from Realviz) like you!

Hello Jim,

Yes, an object created in IM or in VTour can be imported in VTour.
In fact, as long as your object/scene is a rzml file (.rzi or .rzv) or a .obj file you can import it. The only restriction is that only 3D objects and textures are imported (not the cameras for example). That means that you cannot re-extract .
It might be that the import filter only proposes *.obj and *.rzi, but selecting *.* and choosing a rzv file will work.
For the placement, you should use the "Integration tool" or even the move, rotate, scale tools.

Best,

Stef
