» » bjornkn | I didn't have time to start testing this software until yesterday.
So far it looks very promising I was a passionate Canoma fan, and I also enjoy using ImageModeler and Stitcher as well as PhotoModeler.
So far VTour has crashed every time I have tried it, usually after quite a short while, so I have not yet been able to see much of its potential . It seems to be far from ready for release yet, but apparently the beta times out 15th of March (only 5 days left).
Will there be a new beta available by then?
Or will the next step be a closed beta program? |
stef | Hello,
Would like to get more precision on the crashes you have.
At what step ? which tool or which operations ? Is it repeatable ?
Here the main crashes that are already corrected:
- crash after calling texture editor on a selected texture
- crash when loading Quicktime movies
- crashes using the UV manipulator
This is the last beta before the release.
Thanks,
Stef |
bjornkn | Well, I have done none of those things yet.
To me it looks like it crashes at random. So far I have found no consistency there, as it apparently crashes doing different things every time. It can even be simple things as looking around in the panorama (360/180 panorama is the only source I've tried so far), but more often it happens while doing some modelling things. I don't think it has crashed while calibrating yet? I believe I had a couple of crashes while extracting textures too.
I'm on XP Pro/Sp2-Norwegian, if that matters, and my PC is an Athlon 64 dual-core 4600+ with 2GB of RAM and plenty of HDD space, an nVidia 6800GT card etc..
If this program is ready for release in 4 days I'm afraid I'll not be first in the line of potential buyers...
I'm sorry, but I think that is a bad idea! Such rushed releases do nothing but hurt your reputation.
But maybe you have fixed a lot internally already?
I've been beta testing 3D programs for 15 years now, but I have never seen a program released without at least on RC first, often followed by one or more "Gold" versions? But then I have never participated in an open beta program neither - so maybe you have a smaller closed beta team to test the RCs?
You may be aware of that LW9 should have been released before Christmas, but has still not yet been released? I think that is great, and that it shows that Newtek is taking their customers seriously by refusing to release a program that isn't finished yet.. |
pixelweave | This program is still way to buggy. Will their be another beta released? |
stef | Hello,
Please, if you have crashes or other bugs, that you can repeat (give the sequence of actions that lead to the problem) write it here or at vtourbeta@realviz.com If sequences are known, this would help us a lot finding them on our side and correct those bugs.
Don't forget that the beta version you all have was created the 15th of february. Since then the binary has evolved and bugs were corrected.
We recently corrected bugs on undo/redo with split, extrude and bevel functions that led to crashes or weird meshes.
Best,
Stef |
pixelweave | Stef,
Will we be able to access this new beta?

stef | Hi,
No sorry, as said before in the forum, this is the last beta for VTour.
The current version is tested and stabilized by our in site expert users and QA team.
You will be available to evaluate more VTour with the demo version.
Best,
Stef |
