» » ken | Anyone else having problems viewing QTVRs in IE7?
I'm getting an alert box titled Plugin Error with the text 'An error occurred inside a plugin contained on this page.' When I OK it i get another that says 'The plugin did not initialize properly' and the QTVR fails to display. This happens with my own pages on http://www.lookaroundcornwall.com which use a script workaround for the 'eolas' problem, but I don't know if that's what's causing the error. |
KarlHarrsion | I didn't have a problem with a few of yours - nice work - liked the singing choir boys.............
I was using Windows XP Pro with IE 7, but was using QT 7.1 on that test machine, so this might be your issue. I assume all the code was written using Pleinpot.

ken | Thanks Karl. <nice work - liked the singing choir boys>
To be honest, I think the idea for that one might have germinated after seeing one of yours so your generous praise is all the more appreciated.
I'm using Quicktime 7.1.3. But I think the problem may be with my instal of IE, which was originally a beta, there's wierd stuff happening with tabs, so I think I'll try a re-instal and see if that fixes it.
Yes the code is Pleinpot. Rather than using Pleinpot to generate HTML pages I used it once, then adapted the HTML it generated and incorporated it into my page template. The problem is going to be updating. I did some new panos recently for a client -

and noticed some big improvements. The little QT tutorial on enabling Flash is particularly good and you can autorotate on load. Problem is, I've now got a lot of work on my hands to update the existing pages. I guess the only way to avoid the kind of thing is to attempt some kind of dynamic page production using a database. All of which sounds like a lot of work. If anyone else on here is serving panoramas using PHP and mySQL, of which I have almost no experience, I'd be interested in hearing your views.

KarlHarrsion | I run all my big sties as dynamically driven from databases.
For example the Merton College tour:
http://www.chem.ox.ac.uk/oxfordtour/merton/
In the background is a MS Access database and a MS IIS webserver with asp coded pages.
It makes my life a lot easier, since I give my clients a different view and they can edit the text content of the links and page descriptions and don't have to be sending me changes to the web site.
For example on the map in the above tour every single pop up message for the panorama names was written by them.
I have been doing this for a couple of years now, but then again have been building dynamically driven websites for over six years, and enjoy doing this, e.g. my Panorama Tutorial blogsite was all coded by me.
