Can someone give me a rundown on how to install enblend on Mac OSX 10.4.9 and which version works best with 5.5 unlimited?
Also whether or not this is a worthy effort to improve 5.5 unlimited.  My rig is a Nikon D2H, D2X both with 10.5mm fisheye. I am hving some difficulty with auto stitching and wonder if this is worth trying.
Thanks in advance.  -Bruce

Hi Bruce!

The value of a blending program such as enblend, particularly with fisheye images (I use a D70 w/10.5), is that it resolves errors that Stitcher can not. And even if the blending program cannot fix the errors in the pano it creates a very clear break that is easy to fix post-render in Photoshop - otherwise Stitcher might create a very messy ghosting situation that can be very time consumming to correct.

===============
You can place your copy of enblend pretty much where ever you want I believe - I place mine in the same folder as the Stitcher application.

Then in Stitcher Preferences > External Links > Blending Software, click on the "..." button to locate enblend. That's it.

For the Mac there are two recommended versions: 1.3 & 3.0.

I have been using v3.0 with great results.
-----------------------------------------------
Mac G5 2x2.5, 7 Gigs RAM, OS 10.4.9, Stitcher 5.5.2U
Typical pano: (9) 2000 x 3008 px source images, 8000+ px render.

enblend 3.0 is at least twice as fast as 1.3 and seems to do a better job of blending homogenous fields such as blue skies.

However, some users have reported problems using v3.0 with larger panos (18,000+ px with 30+ images). There really is not a clear set of defining parameters here that I'm aware of, or even if the problem is directly related to enblend 3.0 itself.

As both versions are free, why not try both to see which one works best for you?

Hi Jim,

Which file should be selected from within the 3.0 folder, as it will not allow me to select just the folder itself?  BTW I did update the launchblendscript per realviz post.

Hi Bruce!

When I opened the enblend download there was a folder called "enblend-3.0 universal". Inside this folder is a file called "enblend" which is an "Unix Executable file". This is the file to select in Stitcher's "Preferences... Blending Software" field.

Hi jim,
The folder i downloaded is dated Jan 27 2007 and has no enblend file as you described.  It does have several executable files.  I chose the one named config. I selected external in the pull down for blending method, ran a stictch, and it rendered, so I presume that it used that method.  I will have to run a close comparison with the other methods, but would you agree that it would be safe to assume that it is calling up enbelnd with those preferences in place?
Thanks again for all your help...  B-

Hi Bruce!

If you have enblend 3.0 selected as your external blender you will see it identified in the Terminal window (bash).

Look on line 3 in this window which shows the pathway to the blending program. Since I have enblend 3.0 in its own folder (in my case titled "enblend-3.0 universal" ) the next item is enblend. It does not ID itself as v3.0, just simply enblend.

Below is the pathway on my set-up:

I am having a similar problem as Lightbox and hope someone can help (as you have before).

I downloaded "enblend universal" and dropped its folder inside the Stitcher 5.5.4 folder, which also holds the "launchBlend.scpt". The path to "enblend" is listed in "External Links" as "/Applications/REALVIZ/Stitcher Unlimited 5.5.4/enblend-3.0 universal/enblend", so that seems to be in accordance with previous posts in this thread.

Despite having done everything required, the only options I see in "Blending Method" are Linear and Morph (I've always used Morph, but I'd like to try "smartblend" and "enblend", which appear to deliver superior results). What have I done wrong or failed to do?

Incidentally, I posted a similar question yesterday after using the Forum's search function to look for 'enblend', 'blend' and several other variations. Only one of the five hits had anything to do with rendering and blending, and it related to variations in output. Odd.

Thank you.

David

The enblend option is available when you render to a spherical image. To complete the workflow, open a new stitcher document, go to load panorama and select the spherical image you just created. After the spherical image is opened, go to the render menu, you will get the convert panorama options and select the type of output you want for the finished output.

I do not have the enblend-3.0-folder in my Realviz application folder. Where can I get it?

Hi elfinn!

Check this link, about half way down the page is the enblend 3.0 download:
