Hey Everyone,

I wanted to know of a good camera to get for still photos.  Currently I'm using a standard point shot digital camera. I wanted to get a new camera something between 300 and 400 dollars.  Any advice would be great.

Thanks

Chris

If I remember you have a Coolpix 8400 or 8700. Either should do a good job

Yeah I know.  I am trying to avoid having to take off the fisheye lens. So I would rather have two cameras

Hi Chris!

The "Canon A720 IS" got a very nice review on Imaging-Resource:

Just a suggestion; buy a another 8400 or 8700 on eBay.

That way you won't have to learn a new camera and will have a back-up if you drop the one you're using for virtual photography now.

When I was using the Coolpix 950, I had 2 of them mostly because I had another phtographer working for me, but took both of them on a big out of town hotel shoot.

Guess what? I dropped one while it was on the tripod. I just switched cameras and was back shooting in minutes.

The second camera also kept me in business when I got back to Albuquerque, while the one I dropped was being fixed

Currently I use a Coolpix 5400, but have a complete 8700 setup I've never started using. The idea was to move up to the 8700 and keep the 5400 as a backup.

Hi Douglas,
Maybe I will buy a coolpix 5400, can you send me a set of 2 shots with the fc-e9 and a set of three 3 shots please. I want to see and try to stitch to confirm my decision.
Thanks a lot
Regards.

I don't have a way to post them, but if you post your e-mail, I'll send you a set of each.

There is an advantage to the 5megapixel Coolpix 5400 over most of the other Coolpix camras; with the FC-E9 lens it has a 190° FOV so when you stitch just 2 fisheyes, the seams are pretty much invisible. The other Coolpixes have a FOV of 183° with the FC-E9 so once in a while the seam is visible.

Thats why I decided on the 5mp 5400 instead of the 5mp 5700 when I upgraded from my little 950s

I always wished I could get the 190° FOV AND 8megapixels the Coolpix 8700/8400 have.
