Hi guys, well here we are again...

I know this seems to be a question that pops up alot, but no one has truely given a solid answer yet i dont think. the question is........

The coordinates from MM to 3DS are different, yes we know that.
I changed my UP axis to Z in the properties box, etc did the match demo on the lion statue etc, and exported to the 3ds ms script.

but what ever i do, the camera always comes in upside down etc.

could someone please wrtie a full tutorial on exporting and importing the BASIC tutorial with the Statue lion into 3ds max...and explain what settings were used in MM to 3ds  PLEEASSSEEEEEE.

I also got a error message saying missing world cooridates, unknown origin, that was after changning to the UP axis as Z...why is this

when you look in the bottom left corner of the video plate, it says the Y is still in the up position even after changing it to Z...

Please help me someone.

I think the demos RealVIZ give are too basic, and saying just to export and import into max, well is just not good enough for me, come guys its your software...why do we have to guess what to do...when you KNOW what to. please write more tutorials on this basic learning curves...
after all this is a huge toolbox to learn, and every bit helps.
OK ive had a rant..lol i'll go now and hope someone writes a solution.

Hi,

Did you re-solve your solution after setting your up-axis?

I keep getting results saying that the

my problem is that, when i first do the auto tracking on the lion file, then i switch it over to the Z Up axis, and then i try and resolve, i get missing origin errors, and unknown world coordinate systems....i'm kinda lost as to where to go now...i am using version MM 3.1

even if I add a primitive object to the MM file basic_calibrated, it doesnt seem to match in movement to the statue etc.

what am i doing wrong...

i did finally get a version out of the 3ds ms with the Z axis as up, but then it was still upside down.

could you please email me a file with the settings of the Basic scene with the lion with the exports correctly set up to export to max...

i'm starting to look like a fool now in my company, and i'm sure they will not want to upgrade to the newer version if i cant even work out this simple little process of getting the file correctly into 3ds max 8 ...

Ok, you can try this:
- don't change settings in MM (Y up-axis by default)
- add the following line at the end of your maxscript file
- run it, your entire scene will be rotated as expected

in coordsys world ( rzGroup.rotation=quat 1 0 0 1 )

i'm sure it works with the MM4 3dsmax export, but i'm not confident with MM3.1

thanks for feed back

I have had finally some success with the matching of the plate...

I rotated it manually, by linking the camera to the pointer group, and also allows me scale the points and camera at the same time, with out losing any of the camera matching data...phew

hmmi think itried that script before, i read about it in the forum, it didnt work...I dont think its any big problem the asix being in the Y as long as i can successly adjust the scene in max..and thats where  i was falling down. but sorted now i think.

just need to practice more actually tracking clips now.

do you know where i can get the source footage for the old orbital pan demo etc and the other older demos

thanks for reply
