» » steffanino | Hello, this is just me again....
One suggestion absolutly nedded.....
The possibility to re-orient (-+90°) the loaded images... it is really annyoing to model a building with my head on the side... so basically, it could be done directly in IM, or in Photoshop....
Cheers
PS I could have photographed the tall building , orienting the cam normally, but then you'll loose lots of pixels, and final texture images are reduced greatly... |
stef | Hello Herve,
Why would you not rotate the images "permanently" on your disk ?
I understand well your request, but its just to be sure of the need.
About editing the original shots:
- Cropping is not allowed, as you may move the principal point, and make them difficult to calibrate
- Rotation of the original shots is allowed (only 90, 180, 270) and is not destructive. IM will ask you to create a different camera device for the rotated shots.
- Resize ?, well it is destructive for the image, so not so adviced.
Best,

steffanino | well, thanks, but I thought "avoid images that have been modified in external graphic packages, they might complicate the calib." (manual IM 3,5), so I thought well no rotation either.... ok -20points for me....
Cannot believe I modeled this tall stuff head on side... ah well... stupid me
Notice that I tried rotating the images, but I did'nt take that route coz I thought, "well aftewards I might have problems with God knows what..."
One thing though, when I tried rotating images 90°(a while ago), and calibration was not sooo accurate (differences of 0,1 to .2 pixels)... ( I love very accurate calib., and almost never start modeling unless all markers fall under 0,3....)
So thanks a lot Stef....
Could U tell us already some of the new features of Gecko.... he he...

steffanino | reamrk you could always add a rotate image -+ 90 or 180° inside Image Modeler.... would be nice and save time, altough it does not take too long to do so in a Graphic app....
But it would be nice... have to say...
Cheers Stef |
stef | About calibrating 90-degree rotated images:
If all the images are rotated, this should not change accuracy vs not rotated images.
What changes is the focal length value, because computed according to the film back width. And probably distortion value also (to check). In other terms all the internal parameters of a Camera may change if shot is rotated.
If not all shots are rotated, IM asks different camera devices.
So, the only thing that could make a difference for calibration, is that you cannot share the same device (i.e. the same focal constraint and/or distortion).
