We have tried to calibrate a simple ortogonal building example with photos taken with a D1 + Nikon 17-35mm, without obtaining correct results after calibration.
After shooting with a 35-80mm Nikon we had correct results for the same simple shape.
The problem with 35mm is that I need to increase the distance to the building to catch it all in each photo. With a wide lens like the 17mm, I can shoot without this distance limitation.

Question : Can I use 17-35mm wide lens with ImageModeler or not? :?

I don't understand why RealViz guys don't include on tutorials this calibration process using grid templates.
It's something common in photogrametry, and the only way to go for serious work.

When calibrating using grid templates, can we save this as a camera calibration? Or do we have to calibrate everytime we start a new project?

Hello,

The engine is designed to find all the camera parameters, so there is no need to know anything about your cameras.
That said, if you know something on your camera (focal, distortion) for sure it is good to feed IM with that infos, but you have to be sure of that values.

There is no way to save the infos in IM, there are 2 values to edit in the camera device (distortion and focal length). I agree with you, this could be saved in some templates ...

Best,

Stef
