hi,
i'm using imagemodeler 3.5.   i'm wondering beside modeling object like building, can it be use for modelling organic shape mesh like a head.

can i sculpt a head shape with clay, take different angle photos and put it in image modeler to create a  mesh with correct UV and texture?

is this question too pathetic?

hi,
not pathetic at all, we provide an example with ImageModeler 4, you can download it at:
ftp://ftp.realviz.com/private/support/Alex.zip
I am not sure that you will be able to load it in IM3.5 but at least you will see the two sets of images.
the first set with lines in the face are for calibration and modelisation, then you export the model or simply save the project in .rzi format.
The second set of images without lines drawn in the face are for texturing.
You calibrate these images, you load the model you saved in the first project, and you texture the imported model with the nice images.
Here is the workflow:

First when taking your shots, it is advised to take two types/sets of pictures:

 - one set for the textures (+ 3 crosses drawn on the face).
 - another set with a grid on the face to help modelisation (+ same 3 crosses)

General workflow:
-----------------

0- start a project with the grided face pictures (00_face_grid.rzi)

1- calibrate this scene (01_face_grid_calibrated.rzi)

2- put modelling locators on the face with the help of the grid (02_face_grid_modelling.rzi)

3- create a mesh from the modelling locators (03_face_grid_mesh.rzi)
then export it as an obj file (face_mesh.obj)

4- start a new project with clean face picture and calibrate it (04_face_clean_calibrated.rzi)

5- now import the mesh into this scene and pin it on the face (05_face_clean_mesh_import.rzi)

6- extract the textures (06_face_clean_mesh_textured.rzi)

7- retouch the textures within a 2D software to clean the last marks (07_face_clean_retouched.rzi)

Note: in the clean pictures, the little markers on the face are there to help pinning the mesh on the clean face.

Hi Realviz Team,
the file can not be downloaded from the link posted above.
You have added a link on your website as well,
after I downloaded it, the trial software says that some images are missing.
One image can't even be extracted (Winzip says CRC error)
I have downloaded twice, but this does not seem to be the problem.

I am really interested in using ImageModeler for creating a 3D File out of two or more images from a person's head.

Is it really necessary to take pictures with marks on the person's face ??
Is there not a possibility to create a 3D file from standard images ?

Has anyone in this forum already done work like this and can let the forum know about his/her experience ?

Regards

Etienne

Dear sir,

the link should work fine now:
ftp://ftp.realviz.com/private/support/Alex.zip

placing crosses in the face are not mandatory but dramatically help the calibration and the modelisation. As you will see in this example, there are two projects, one with crosses and lines for calibration and modelisation, and another one without crosses and lines for texturation. The model is exported from the first project and imported in the second one and then textured.

Best regards
Dom

hi, i am using im4.0 , i am practicing the reconstrunction of human face following your example--alex. but there is a big problem that at the 2 step in your general workflow. that is: how to put the modelling locators on the face? i have to put about 200 modelling locators one by one on the face by my own hand ? is there any efficent way to do this? and is there any more detailed tutorial for this face reconstruction?
