Hi

I am about to upgrade to version five of photomodeler as it contains nurbs, however I do like the whole realviz range and would like some feedback from users or realviz to say why it would be a good idea to move over to IM. I use max and am interested in using panos as well as just stills.

I would welcome any comments.

Hello,

There is an old post in CGArchitect forum talking about that :
http://www.cgarchitect.com/cgi-bin [...] 1;t=000521

Regarding Max, PM5 exports in 3ds format with no nurbs (at least in the demo) and no cameras. Nurbs seems to be exported only in obj and Rhino format.

IM exports in max scripts, allowing to exports points, 3d models, textures and calibrated cameras.
There is also a max plugin to export from Max -> IM.

From far, I/O , calibration an texturing seems to be the strenght of IM vs PM.
For modeling, i don't know, as I'm not expert of both.
PM seems to have more measurement tools than IM.

To make your own opinion, the best to do is to download our demo version and compare it with the demo of PM5.0.

Hope it helps,

Stef

Thanks Stef, good link. I agree its the i/o and textures that IM gets right, having a plugin gives great confidence.

i would disagree, i feel they are both good programs in there own way.

IM does have the edge on the textures, although PM is also good at this.

I think where IM has the edge is that you use shapes to model, so edges are straight and the final export needs less work.
PM however, if you not 100% accurate you need to realign edges and points after exporting.
You also have the ability to capture all objects in the photos in IM (floor walls lamposts etc) Where as PM captures only what you trace.

PM excels by calibrating quickly and with less information you can knock together something decent. I personally think that it can also be more accurate if used correctly.

I would recommend keeping your old version of PM and buying IM, because together there isnt much you cannot photo/image model
