» » Samuel Goff | Has anyone here had success bringing textured models created with ImageModeler directly into ElectricImage Universe?
I have heard that it can be done via Lightwave, but I'd prefer not to have to purchase LW just for that capability.
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
Thanks mucho in advance... |
Doug Thompson | You need to get a copy of Object2Fact from TripleDtools.com in order to bring fully textured ImageModeler files into EIU. I think it costs about $100. But it works like a charm and is much cheaper than buying LightWave! |

Samuel Goff | Doug,
Thanks so much for the reply and advice!
Do you know if the textures with UV mapping would come over, too? That's a dealbreaker for me, if they can't come over textured.
Thanks mucho in advance to anyone who might know this one... |
stef | Hi Samuel,
Here some other translators, you may know :
3dexploration / deepexploration (http://www.righthemisphere.com)
or the one from okino (http://www.okino.com)
What are the file formats that Electric Universe can handle (import) ?
Thanks,

Samuel Goff | Yes, I've seen Deep Paint and other Right Hemisphere products and been drooling over them for years. Unfortunately, this product is Windows-only, and I'm on MacOS X. I would much rather purchase Maya (or something else cool) with the money I'd spend on a PC as beefcake as my Mac.
I spoke to the developers of PolyTrans (Okino) a few years ago, and at the time, their product didn't maintain the UV data when going to ElectricImage's FACT format. I'm glad to see they've conquered that problem since then, and this product looks wonderful. Again, it seems to be available for Win and Irix, but not OS X (He just responded to my email, and it seems he's unwilling/unable to do a port for OS X. Bummer.)
Both are excellent suggestions, but it looks like Obj2Fact might be the way to go, if the newer versions of the EI file format translators don't do the trick. I've just investigated Obj2Fact some more, and it looks like it really will keep the UV data intact -- in contrast to previous versions that I had looked at.
Also, ElectricImage Universe does import a pretty wide array of file formats:
• Lightwave (.lwo I & II)
• 3-D Studio (.3ds)
• Autocad (.dxf)
• Maya (.obj)
• ElectricImage (fact)
I'm just coming back to this question after 3 years, so they may very well have since solved the UV-translation issues with the app's own IMPORT abilities.
Thanks mucho for your suggestions. |
