Hello,

I have a feature request/suggestion. Although I don't own ImageModeler, I have worked on Canoma years ago, so I know what it can do. And I feel it's the best software that can handle such type of work.

I am a paper card modeler, and I was wondering if there is a tool that can help flatten 3D models onto paper. If you don't understand then see these links:

The idea is, that after you create a model out of an image, you can "flatten" it so that it can be printed on a piece of paper and then reconstructed in 3D in real world. So if we have a model, say of a church, and I have image modeled it, then the software can "unfold" the church model into flat pieces with proper texture projections which can be exported to an image and later reconstructed in real world. There is a tool that already does that, but it's an AutoCAD plug-in and I don't know how well it handle textures.

See its manual at: http://www.card-models.com/surfmaster.pdf

I think this has some commercial usage also. Apart from the fact that it will help many companies develop card models of their products - like Yamaha, it will also be useful for studios that are dedicatedly involved in this profession. Card modeling is a craze in some parts of the world.

Also, one can recreate miniature models for physical SFX effects. For example, if I need a photorealistic miniature model of a building. I can shoot it and then use ImageModeler to reconstruct it in 3D. Then I can unfold the polygons with proper photorealistic textures in place. I can then take these flattened images and use it on a wood template to recreate the set with proper lighting information baked into the textures. The output will be phenomenal, and the textures can also serve as additional templates for an artist to paint over it.

It can also be a very powerful pre-visualization tool for movie sets.

I think RealViz only needs to figure out how to unfold the polygons according to user defined edges….rest and all should already be there I guess.

Best Regards,
