extract texture problem...

I am fairly new to IM and am currently going through various basic tutorials - however i have discovered a problem and am not sure if it's a bug or button pushing... Whenever i extract texture in object or face mode i end up with large black areas and textures cut in half or just solid black. It's not objects infront causing it as i have been redused to just using basic single cubes as tests.

I have tried several different projects and all seem to do it. Does anyone else have this problem and is there any work around...? (else IM is usless to us.)

Thanks

Rob

I also have had the same issue
I am on Mac OS X, using the latest version of Image Modler.

Had an extensive, dialogue with REALVIZ support, they can't seem to offer any practicle solution.

I feel ripped off. to be frank, selling me alpha software that does not work
should be illegal.

get used to it...realviz, alas, tends to do this a bit too often

There are a bunch of us over in the pixelcorps that are experiencing this problem.  Seems to affect G4's and G5's and video card doesn't matter, we're using ATI and Nvidia's and having the same issues.

On my G5 I have the problem but strangely my G3 laptop doesn't.

The only workaround that we have found is reducing the size of the source photos, seems to work for many of our team members but it doesn't work for me so I'm stuck working on a G3.

Apparently Realviz knows about this issue but we've had no response with a fix yet.

I hope someone from Realviz reads this board and steps up because this is a very serious problem.

don't count on it...
[rant] rarely have i detested a program that i absolutely have to use as much as imagemodeler. if RV would just take about 10 minutes to try to make some really basic UI improvements i think the world would be SO much better [end of rant]

sorry - i'm being unprofessional. for those of you browsing these posts, know that the RV people are very nice and that this product, for all its insane quirks, is irreplaceable (at least for the moment)

Hello all,

We are listening and offering patches regularly, modifications and bugs were corrected on both platforms MAC and PC. Check the release notes here :
http://www.realviz.com/downloads/p [...] m&ve=4.0 .

We are a small company so things might take more time as they should. Sorry for that. But be sure we are listening and working for a solution.

I don't think its related on the machine, but probably due to different implementation of OpenGL in the different MacOS systems.

Can I ask your system versions ?

Regards,

Stef

Hello Rom,

We do beta testing of our products, but this problem was not found.
We were always responsive to such important problems, and delivered patches as soon as possible.
We have identified the problem on our side too, and will patch it very soon.

Regards,

Stef

I'm on version 10.3.9 on a dual G5 1.8 with ati radeon 9600, this is the machine that does not work.  My G3 that does work is on 10.3.9 as well and has an ATI radeon 7500.

Some Pixelcorps members have had luck with reducing the size of the images before loading them and modeling.

I'll get the other Pixelcorps folks to post their info here.

One more thing: I've tried versions 4.0.1 and 4.0.3 and both exhibit this behavior.

I to have the issue of black bands on the sides of the extracted textures...

Currently running IM  4.0.3
on my Powerbook 15" G4 1.25GHz
1.25  GB DDR SDRAM
32MB ATI 9600 mobility
OS X 10.4.2

Haven't installed it on my new dual G5 2.3 yet...

(I agree that there could be a bit more attention focused on the user experience as well.  "The interface is the product." )

Hello,

Thanks for your inputs. We had difficulties to find this one because we could only repeat it on 1 of our 5 Macs.

The official patch is under construction (tests + installer), but you can already contact support@realviz.com to get the binary without installer.

Technically:
--------------
The problem comes from (machine/Os/graphic cards) that does not support OGL textures with size bigger than 2048. When extracting textures, IM generates visibility buffers of the size of the original images (if your image is 6MP ~ 3008x2000 for example, the visibility buffer fails and the final extracted textures has black bands).

The machines that have the problem answer 4096 (we use the OpenGL function that asks the MaxTextureSize allowed), but in fact they support only 2048.

Best,

Stef

Hello,

To understand if its a display pb, could you try this:
- Save your project and reload it. Does the texture problem persist ?

the problem seems to correct it's self after I reopen a project, or if I click around on different tools.  Not sure if I can reproduce what I did, but it just suddenly 'poof' looked ok.  (haven't had allot of time to experiment with IM the past few days)
