exporting the undestorted images from IM3.5

Hi

Is there a way to export the un-distorted (that is, after the full calibration, when IM has modified the images to remove camera distortion) images from IM - to say TGA, or JPG format?

This would be amazingly usefull to take into another 3d package for more complex modelling.

If not - can it be a feature added to hot-fix? This seems really important for complete intergration in a good 3D pipeline.  Whilst the 3d creation tools in IM3.5 are certainly better than previous versions, they are still no where close to a full-scale modelling package - and having these undistorted images to use as ImagePlanes in other software is incredibly important.

Cheers

Matt

Hello Matt,

There is no way to do it perfectly in IM directly (except by extracting a texture on a plane perpendicular to the camera).

But you can find a windows macros called DistoIma (only pc)
in the download section (Freeware and macros) and use it with the focal and the distortion found by IM.

Hope it helps,

Stef

Stef, can you help me with this... I cant recall how to use Distoima... I mean in the run ... it says "cmd" , then I type C:/Distoima.exe, and all I get is how to use Distoima... which I already found back in the forum, but how do you get Distoima to start.... and if I type directly Distoima in the "run" stuff, it flashes once on screen....

If you know, coz I really need it... I used it a couple of times but my memory is falling apart...

Thanks
Hervé

Hello Herve,

You need to launch it from a command prompt. Here is the usage

Usage: distoIma [-hvc][-du disto][-f focal][-k fbwidth][-a ar][-p x y]
                [-q quality][-b begin][-e end][-o format] imgIn imgOut
imgIn           Input image or sequence of images
imgOut          Output image or sequence of images

        -h              Display the help message
        -v              Verbose
-c              Force the output image to fit the full resolution
-f focal        Focal length. In mm by default
-k fbwidth      Film Back width. In mm by default
-a ar           Pixel Aspect Ratio. 1.0 by default
-p x,y          Principal Point. Center of the image by default
-d disto        Apply the distorsion <disto> to the input images
-u disto        Remove the distorsion <disto> from the input images
-q quality      JPEG quality (0..100). 85% by default
-b begin        first image to load. Used only with AVIs
-e end          last image to load
-o format       output format if the ouput sequence has no extension

Example:

DistoIma -u 0.1 -f 18 -k 32 input.jpg output.jpg

removes distortion of input.jpg and generates output.jpg file.

0.1 is distortion value get in IM or MM
18 is the focal lenght get in IM or MM (with film back width set to 32)

Best,

Stef

In the 5 last line of my post, I gave an example of use and how to get the values ...

I recall them here:

What to type in the command prompt:
DistoIma -u 0.1 -f 18 -k 32 input.jpg output.jpg

Effect:
removes distortion of input.jpg and generates output.jpg file.

How to get the values:
0.1 is distortion value get in IM or MM
18 is the focal lenght get in IM or MM (with film back width set to 32)

et si je tape Distoima après... no way... I am trying to get it to work since yesterday.... damn PC...

in case... when you talk about the prompt, you talk about the black window... do you ? not about the little run command in left corner of windows... ?

in this litle "Run " window... if I type Distoima... nothing... it flashes on screen very fast... and If I type cmd, it opens a propmpt, and in this one, if I type whatever, I get nothing... so I really dunno what is going on .... I fell like a Grandpa...

If I type one of the following like cmd, I get a prompt, but useless, coz if then I type DistoIma, it shows me just the help file of Distoima...

If I type Distoima... or the full path of Distoima... I can see the prompt flashing on Screen, but that's it....

I am very confused here... this is how you proceed Stef ?

Thanks for all your answers Stef... thing is I had to move Distoima to another folder, coz I cant (GGGrrrr) go to the C: root... why... I really have no idea... anyway I ended up just changing the place of Distoima to the D: and it works now... Thanks for your time and patience Stef !
