I am looking to buy the new Greg Downing DVD about IM, Stitcher and Maya...

will that work with LW instead of maya... coz we cannot model in the cam view in LW, no ?

I've e-mailed Greg and Gnomon .. no answers... (maybe too busy...)

this is what I am doing... and modeling in Im & LW with the back & forth OBJ export and Object placement is not the best....

Herve Steff,

Hi, I got your mail about using the DVDs w/ Lightwave. The Panoramic Photography DVD is not dependent on Maya at all, I do show how a panorama can be used in maya but that is only about 5 minutes of the DVD, and it should be clear how this can be done in any 3D program.

The "Image Based Modeling: Essentials" DVD uses Maya very little. I just cover some of the specifics of the exporting from Image Modeler to Maya. All the calibration, modeling, and texturing is done in Image Modeler. The only differnce is you will be using the exporter for Lightwave, there should be no problem at all.

The "Image Based Modeling: Advanced" should not be to difficult to translate into Lightwave if you know Lightwave well. There are two advanced techniques covered. The first should be easy, it will require that you know how to attach an image plane to a camera, lock it's attributes and do simple camera projection onto the geometry. On the dvd I use a mel script that generates UVs from the camera's perspective but any camera projection tool will work. The second advanced technique is a little more tricky and I use a mel script to generate cube faces for a panoramic viewer. It requires importing calibrated cameras from Image Modeler into your 3D program and then creating 90 FOV cameras that are rotate 90 degrees from the original imported camera's rotation. The code for the mel script is available on the DVD, if you can translate this to something similar in lightwave (I am unfamiliar w/ it's capibilities) you should be set. In anycase, conceptually this could be done in any 3D program but I do not know the specific details of how it would be done.
