» » cedar | I am having trouble aligning models with a background image. I think Image modeller has a max plug in that works out the camera position, does anyone have any experience or tips.
An example would be adding a model of a summer house to an image of a garden. |
stef | Hello Cedar,
To be able to do this in IM, you need at least 2 background images. One is not sufficient (Sceneweaver can handle one image).
You can also make your integration in 3D Studio Max, by exporting the calibrated images and the cameras.
Stef
Here an example in IM: |
cedar | Thanks for the reply Stef, in order to get the camera location I see you used the existing slab plus other objects in the sceen. Could you get a camera location simply by using an image with trees and a fence with no buildings? |
stef | It would be very difficult (sometimes impossible) without any physical markers in the case you describe. Recognising leafs for example in different images is too difficult.
You need to see at least 7/8 well seen features in your scene that are present in you shots.
If not, complete with physical markers (fences, legos, ...)
If you don't see any feature add:
- 2 or 3 fences
- 3 or 4 markers on the ground - markers on the trees if possible
Hope it helps,
Stef |
cedar | Thanks stef I shall give it a go with markers in the scene.
Do you use the max plug in if so what does it do and why would you use it if IM exports image and camera to Max? |
stef | Hi,
For your need, the plugin is not necessary, as IM exports all the data needed through the max script export (points, models, textures, cameras), and you can finish the work in Max.
The plugin could be usefull if you need to come back in IM.
It's a plugin that exports a 3d model from Max to .rzi file (IM native format). Stef |

Hello Cedar, Here are the main steps to align your models in MAX:
1- Run the script with your models
2- in perspective view, press the "C" key for lock on an imported CAMERA
3- Go to Views menu => Viewport Background... (AL+B) Then place one of the view used in Imagemodeler for calibrate your model, choose "match bitmap" to respect the image ratio.
Hope it helps, Pierre. |
